Vengeance et alia v Hyperion
The hunt:
It was all Tuskers in Hevrice local, so I noticed the newcomer at once. I also noticed his youth, and the shiny Hyperion he was flying, so I decided to see where he was going.
To my delight, he appeared to heading to one of the Hev belts to do some ratting. With visions of Tusker Solo Kill of the Month dancing in my head, I warped in, finding him at zero.
Unfortunately for my dreams of a solo kill, I was simply the fastest Tusker, not the only one. Within 12 seconds of landing, two other frigate flying Tuskers joined me. They asked if they should back off, but I don't like being greedy. And besides, they had clearly been in warp before I landed point, so they had as much right to be here as I did.
We settled into tight orbits to ensure we stayed under the Hyperion's guns. Keeping an eye out for ewar, I ignored the drones as I was quite capable of permatanking them. Smoke, one of our new members, recognised that the other two frigates were more at risk, and so took on the task of destroying the drones.
In the end, the Hyperion exploded, and we go a shiny killmail for our collection.

Battleclinic is down right now, and Evekill does not record capsule kills, so I can't remember if we caught the pod.
Nalanthii arranged the loot split.
Afterthoughts:
This is the first time I've taken on a battleship in a small gang and I really enjoyed it. Granted, the character was young, the fit was poor, and there was little in the way of pvp defences, but I'm pretty pleased with the kill.
I'm also fairly sure I could have solo'd this particular ship, as none of us were ever in any real danger. I'll have to keep my eye out for other likely BC and BS targets, but I don't want to get carried away again and start throwing myself at every Drake that crosses my path.

Proper PVE fit Drakes are annoying to kill due to their stupidly good shields. Also their HML's will wear you down slowly. Mind you, a Vengeance might be able to tank it. Last time I tried was in a Nos + SAR rifter, didn't end well lol.
ReplyDeleteWFT??? Looking at was in cargo and what wasn't I just can't figure out what this person was thinking with this fit. Obviously they where doing exploration but the tank and weapons leave me really confused. And why the hell don't I find things like this flying around.
ReplyDeleteAlthough small ships vs big ships is fun. I used to fly around in a rifter with a tiny sig and look for BS and just tackle them for the hell of it. Hell before the nano nerf like 3 years ago I used to really piss people off with a gistii crow.
Oh and if you want to test out your fit and tactic against a Drake let me know maybe we can set something up.
ReplyDeleteJadark
You definitely could have solo'd that ship. Guy must have literally just trained the battleship skill, but clearly had no idea how to fit the ship, and judging from that killmail, has no idea how to fit any ship. He probably needs someone to teach him how to fit a ship right now.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the battleship kill!
Yeah, you guys did teach him a lesson.
ReplyDeleteNot every young character is a newbie and that could have been an alt, but let's assume it was a newbie. What do you think this lesson is? how to fit a ship? Nah. How not to fly what you cannot afford to lose? Nah. Sorry, after reading this blog for a while the only thing I learned is that I should always bring friends to a fight, and gank the hell out of the opposition. That is the only way to win in EvE and no wonder Russians (who are ganking masters in RL) are ruling most of the better space in this game.
This blog started well enough with the Punisher plan and one young solo pilot against the universe, now it devolved into a glorified ganking killboard. It is your blog and all but there is nothing interesting about battles where the other side has no chances at all. And I am not sure why you are so happy about it either.
And no, I never been ganked and no I do not play EvE anymore, really liked this blog in the beginning hoping that it would prove EvE and its freaking meta crap wrong, I guess i was wrong. I love to read about this game, just pissed that everyone who starts playing it their way ends up the the same boring place in the end.
I like your blog and follow it often. I can almost see that the Anonymous poster above me kinda sorta has a point (in a non-playing very very very bitter vet sounding way) All you taught the poor schmuck, if he was new, is to never fly into low sec. I know the Tuskers are only one of the very few reputable pirate corps that actually honor ransoms. Why didn't you try to give him a ransom try? I know, hindsight is 20/20 and you had no clue at the time that he was not properly fit and it would have been cool to solo him since you probably could have! Anyways, keep on posting, I enjoy the fact you take the time to post fairly regularly. Thanks for the good reading.
ReplyDeletenot sure how three frigs against a BS is "ganking the hell" out of anything
ReplyDeletebut perhaps you would like the other two to leave after figuring out the BS was shitfit?
perhaps on the line of "oh wait this guy dont have a chance, two of us will leave so we can all have a fair fight"
or perhaps all should have left him?
oh wait lets not be pirates anymore, that way everyone would be safer
also id say there is a valuable lesson in not flying into lowsec before being ready
I'd say a bigger lesson is: "big ships don't always win." Killing larger ships (especially one's that should tear your frigs apart, ie: cynabal, cane, ect.) is thrilling. That's what the punisher plan was all about in the first place, learning to fly inexpensive ships before getting into more invested pvp. It's the idea that player skill is greater than the ship you fly or the character you own that this hyp pilot should be taking away from this fight.
ReplyDeleteI liked this, but tbh, if that was a properly fitted solo Hyperion, you would not have survived. I'd take mine against you anytime and happily giggle as you frigs all die :)
